"How could you do it? It meant so much to us all! I know you are the King and come from the North, rather than Gondor, but I thought you would at least respect our heritage!"
The White Tree by lindahoyland

Banners

As per request, here are - finally - some banners if you want to link back to NAN. You can access the banners by clicking on the Link to Us link, which is located at the bottom of the page.

Many thanks to Nautika for providing most of the pretty banners!

Featured Stories

I must admit, I never spent much energy on the featured stories. Whenever the mood hit me, I decided to change the three stories that were featured on the main page. This strategy was far from perfect, so I decided to try something different.

From now on, we will only have one featured story at a time, which will be featured for one month (this way, more stories than before should end up being featured). So, not surprisingly, it will be called Story of the Month. Instead of me deciding which story should be featured I'm delegating all the work to you! At the beginning of the month, I will make a poll listing all stories that were finished the previous month. Then you have one week to vote for the one you liked best. The story with the most votes will win the title of Story of the Month (and a shiny banner which has yet to be created *g*) and will be displayed prominently for the rest of the month.

The poll for July was just added, go ahead and place your vote!

Never Enough Heroes

Maybe you have already noticed that the top menu has changed slightly. If not, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that we have a new feature for you. Clicking on the "recs" link will take you to Never Enough Heroes, a blog full of Lord of the Rings fanfiction recommendations. The site is loosely tied to NAN, therefore you will find mostly angsty stuff centering around Aragorn and/or Legolas there. These recs are brought to you by none other than Thorongirl , possibly the only person to know each and every Aragorn story that has ever been written:)

Feel free to browse around, go straight to the introductory post or check out Thorongirl's wonderful recommendations!

The Feed is back!

The RSS Feed is up and running again. So if you've given up trying to get NAN to cooperate with the feed reader of your choice, have another go at it. It should be working now, displaying new stories complete with summary and rating.

Updated stories are not displayed. If you want to be informed about new chapters, you should add the story to your favourites. You will then get email alerts when new chapters are being posted.

Bookmarking Fun
I've added a neat little feature that should make it easier for you to add links (e.g. stories or author profiles) to your bookmarks, your blog, the social bookmarking service of your choice ect. If you move your mouse over the button strategically placed on the website you will see the supported services. And if you click the little "more" in the bottom you'll see a whole list of other features. Have a whirl at it!

Quotes
A new batch of quotes has been added to the main page. Authors, please remember that you are invited to send in quotes from your stories to be showcased! If you would like to participate, simply send me quotes from your stories to michelle [at] waking-vision.com. Try to keep it short and catchy. I will add them to the site to be shown at random. And hopefully, they'll attract new readers!

Tags

There is a new way to browse stories - it does need your participation to be useful, though. From now on, you can tag stories. If you are logged in and view a story you will see a tag-field. Enter something that describes the story. You could define the setting (Mirkwood, Rivendell, Gondor ect.), the type of angst (emotional, physical, torture, poison), the subgenre (littleEstel, first meetings, evilThranduil), pairing (Aragorn/Arwen, Gilraen/Arathorn, Faramir/Eowyn). The site will then group together stories with the same tags, offering something like a "If you liked this, you will probably like that"-feature.

Please refrain from tagging your stories with anything that is already defined by the site. That would included genre (angst, action, horror), characters (Aragorn, Legolas), category (pre-LOTR), ratings (K, T), warnings (AU, character death) and the like.

And now, tag away!
